Biogenetics & the 2014 Ebola Outbreak
“Ebola virus is a zoonotic filovirus that causes a hemorrhagic fever syndrome in humans, with a high case-fatality rate. An epidemic that started in December 2013 or early in 2014, and which has spread to four West African countries (Guinea,Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria), has infected over 2000 individuals as of August 28 2014. While Ebola virus has caused several prior outbreaks in Africa, this is the largest ever to occur. Over half of all Ebola infections that have ever been documented have occurred in the context of the current outbreak, which is ongoing.”

This Alnylam announcement of a $23mil DoD research grant, discusses the development of a treatment against a possible airborne biological terrorist attack.

But in Nov 2010 Big Pharma turns away from RNAi research saying it holds no promise but Alnylam and Tekmira stay on defiant. Or was big pharma ordered to back off? Just months previous DoD had invested millions more in RNAi ebola treatment research, which by mid-2013 was being praised once more.

Drug giants turn their backs on RNA interference (Nov 2010)
As established above, Alnylam and Tekmira work together on the RNAi treatment as research partners, but also compete for millions in DoD contract dollars, ultimately culminating in each accusing the other of stealing research and patents. Tekmira seem to have favour of the courts winning millions in payout from Alnylam. Of course, as the above demonstrates, these millions going back and forth are pretty much all DoD dollars to begin with.
